We would expect that, for any given object, it can be decided if it is completely determined or not. We will see in the following whether that is really the case, according to Meinong's theory. Meinong believes that any existing and possible ideal object is completely determined. e. individuals, even when they do not exist anymore.

Of course, mathematical concepts arose from our dealings with reality, in this Meinong concurs with Mach, and that is the history of man's intellectual development. But even in the actual measuring of a line with a ruler or tape, which seems to be so very perceptual and experiential, the apriori component, namely that of comparison, is ignored by Mach. Our dealings with reality do not immediately produce mathematics, which treats of objects that do not at all occur in reality: straight lines, constant curves, irrational or imaginary numbers.

Psychological studies, by their nature, are empirical, at least at first before the construction of theories and before theoretical analysis of that which is given in perception. Many psychic events - and the theory of knowledge is interested in presenting psychic events - elude empirical observation, simple instances are ideas considered in isolation from judgments or assumptions in which they occur. Meinong did not state that, but I myself have never been able to present to myself an idea by itself.
